With the recent news of the Church of Scientology being banned from editing Wikipedia, here are 4 parts of a Panorama Scientology investigation, that was broadcast a year ago. I think it’s an interesting perspective. Whether you agree with it or not, it’s worth a watch.
You can also watch the reply by the Church of Scientology here.
Mma Ramotswe. The No 1 Lady Detective in the whole of Botswana. (Quite a title).
The series is shown on BBC1 at 9pm. It’s one of my weekly favorites, and I highly recommend it.
It has great plots, twists, and is hilariously funny. I really feel like I know who Mma is, like she’s a friend. Check this program out, especially if “you are a woman who lies to eat” lol.
The BBC is reporting today that there is a new virus affecting Facebook users, known as ‘Koobface’, (great name!). Now, when I saw this I thought déjà vu. I blogged about this a month ago on November 2nd.
Apparently the virus send out messages acting like a friend, linking to a virus. Hundreds of websites are now reporting the same, see here. In fact, Google returns 5,580,000 results. If only people had listened to me lol.
Controversy has erupted, after the BBC 2 radio broadcast of the Russell Brand show, featuring Jonathan Ross.
They made a call to Andrew Sachs, (one of the stars of Faulty Towers), and said that Brand had slept with his Granddaughter, along with other comments.
Announced last night, Brand has resigned from his £200,000 a year radio show on BBC 2, and Ross, (one of the biggest paid TV stars) has been suspended (with full pay).
After watching the clip form the show on YouTube, I can completely see why it was inappropriate and insulting to both Andrew and his Granddaughter, but I can also see the pretence of humour. If they had been directed towards a friend of Brand’s, or done as a set up with someone, it most likely would have been fine. The fact was, this was a 78 year old man.
Firing Brand and Ross perhaps would be going a bit far, especially when this show was pre-recorded, and approved for broadcast. Obviously, some sanctions should be taken towards the “talent”, but the Directors of the BBC should take the ultimate rap.
New Tricks is my favourite detective show on TV. Not only is it funny, but the plots are clever, and the twists sensational. Due to its popularity (with a 38.5% share on its highest rated episode), it’s back on TV with a new series, which has been running for three weeks now. The story takes up the Trial of Ricky Hanson, who murdered the wife of Jack Halford many years previously. Now, due to Hanson’s verdict being returned as Innocent, Jack has gone AWOL. However, work goes on, and the team has other cases to solve, including the murder of an actor by his wife on stage and the death of a radio DJ. It’s great to see some really funny, clever British Drama, especially from the BBC. It’s reassuring to know that the tax payers’ money is going into producing some worthwhile work. If you haven’t checked out New Tricks, what you waiting for? I’ve posted a clip below, which is well worth a watch.
The fierce Dragons of the business world are back; this time on prime time. The show which sees budding entrepreneurs bid for cash backing has run for several seasons, and is very popular.
One question though always makes me wonder; does Deborah Meaden ever smile? She seems to be the grumpiest woman on TV ever!
The new season starts tonight on BBC 2 at 9pm. I’ll be tuning in to see the blood bath that is bad valuations and crummy product ideas. I don’t know why some of the people go on at all. Come on; Tuc Tucs in Britain? An electric egg cooker? Lol.
Their new book ‘Dragons Den, from Pitch to Product’ is available from Amazon.
