The many sides of Rachel

So yesterday on Big Brother, the Heavenly housemates got to watch the audition VT’s of the Hell housemates. It was a very interesting experience, with Stuart, Rex, Mohammed and Mikey being stunned at the differences between Maysoon, Dale and Rachel, who all appeared differently then they are in the house.

What I thought was how fun Rachel was in the audition! She was bubbly, energetic and funny to watch! What happened? In the house, she is just so boring and dull. She hangs out with Darnell and Kat, who are both paranoid at how everyone else is playing games. Who cares: it’s a game show! That’s what you do on a game show: win! I wish Rachel would start acting more fun, like in the VT. Watch it below:

Doctors: Why Test Them?

July 24th, 2008

Doctor at Work

Medicine is one of the most stressful careers out there. Not only do they have to deal with the pressure of treating hundreds of patients daily, but also the stress of getting something wrong and litigation.

Now the idea of testing doctors every few years on clinical skills is being thrown about, with the least efficient doctors being struck off. But is this fair? No. Doctors have to firstly get into Medical School, (which is extremely difficult), then train for 6 years, followed by another 5 years working as a foundation doctor.

How is it fair that they should then have to repeatedly be re-tested for the rest of their career; at a cost of 15 million! The NHS already claims poverty, and 15 million, in my opinion, could be much better spent.

The Darwins in PanamaAnne and John Darwin, the couple who scammed £250,000 of insurance money, have been successfully convicted and sentenced to jail, after faking the death of John Darwin (57) for the large sum of money. John and Anne have now been jailed for 6 years and 3 months.

The SonsWhat I can’t understand is how they could do this to their two sons? Mark and Anthony, who lived for four years thinking their Dad had died in a canoeing accident. How could any mother put her children through such a horrific ordeal? I can’t begin to imagine what sort of person she must be, and I wouldn’t ever be able to forgive her for putting money before me like that.

Both of them deserve harsher sentences; six years? That’s hardly anything. Not only have they victimised their sons, but have wasted thousands of pounds of Public Money, which was spent on the rescue search which ensued John’s disappearance. Throw the book at them.

new-tricksNew Tricks is my favourite detective show on TV. Not only is it funny, but the plots are clever, and the twists sensational. Due to its popularity (with a 38.5% share on its highest rated episode), it’s back on TV with a new series, which has been running for three weeks now. The story takes up the Trial of Ricky Hanson, who murdered the wife of Jack Halford many years previously. Now, due to Hanson’s verdict being returned as Innocent, Jack has gone AWOL. However, work goes on, and the team has other cases to solve, including the murder of an actor by his wife on stage and the death of a radio DJ. It’s great to see some really funny, clever British Drama, especially from the BBC. It’s reassuring to know that the tax payers’ money is going into producing some worthwhile work. If you haven’t checked out New Tricks, what you waiting for? I’ve posted a clip below, which is well worth a watch.

Dragons Den is back!

July 21st, 2008

The fierce Dragons of the business world are back; this time on prime time. The show which sees budding entrepreneurs bid for cash backing has run for several seasons, and is very popular.

One question though always makes me wonder; does Deborah Meaden ever smile? She seems to be the grumpiest woman on TV ever!

The new season starts tonight on BBC 2 at 9pm. I’ll be tuning in to see the blood bath that is bad valuations and crummy product ideas. I don’t know why some of the people go on at all. Come on; Tuc Tucs in Britain? An electric egg cooker? Lol.

Their new book ‘Dragons Den, from Pitch to Product’ is available from Amazon.

Sara Bareilles

Sara Bareilles is a new face on the Music Block, however her voice is making a huge impact. ‘Little Voice’, her debut album, has been on top of the charts in both the UK and the US, and ‘Love Song’, in my opinion, is the song of the summer.

My favourite tracks are below:

1. Love Song

2. Bottle it Up

3. Vegas

4. Gravity

5. Fairytale

What I find with her music is just how great it makes everyone feel, no matter where they are in their life. Unlike other artists out there, she really is great singer, and unlike a lot of today’s Pop, her songs don’t have loads of complex melodies or tricks to improve her voice. Her music is simple, but perfect.

You can get the album at good old Amazon (UK/US), or listen free to Love Song at Last.fm.

demand_five_logo

Here in the UK, we have never have to miss any TV program, thanks to VOD (Video on Demand) services, available for BBC, ITV and Channel 4 programs. Now to join the band wagon is Channel 5. That channel that nobody really watches, (except for Neighbours obviously).

Demand Five is essentially the same as the other Catchup services, except for one difference. Speed. It takes a few extra seconds than normal for the video to start, but worse. Once the program of choice begins, it starts to stutter and freeze, and the audio has a slight Internet-style tinge, which is annoying.

More to the point though, what are people actually going to watch on it? In my opinion, the only program that Five actually show than anybody watches is Neighbours (which Five don’t actually produce). Who bothers with ‘Fifth Gear’, which really is just a bad, cheap version of ‘Top Gear’ on BBC 2, or ‘The Gadget Show’? The only other good thing on Five is the movies they show at the weekend (again, not produced by Five). Unfortunately, these aren’t available on the VOD service.

One of the big problems with Five though is signal quality. Half of my neighbours even can’t get Five anyway! Watching any Five produced program, it is obvious of how low budget they are. The presenters are usually rubbish, and the ad breaks last for an eternity! Someone could die during one of them!

Blog Search Feature

July 19th, 2008

Hi. Just a quick update about the Blog. I’ve written a search script, which can be accessed by clicking here. Type any keyword into it, and it will show you a full list of Posts relating to the criteria. Hope this helps.

JK

P.S: The search script is hosted on an external server.

One of the coolest features of iTunes is Cover Flow. It’s a really cool way of searching through your digital music library; as long as you have the album art.

So a new website uses a similar features to allow you to search through the web. It’s called Searchme.com, and by typing in a keyword and clicking search it shows you a cool preview of all the matches.

Actually, it works really well, even though it’s still in Beta. Better, it has an extensive index of sites; pretty much just as good as Google.

So a cool little site that is very useful. Google, watch out!

So Eviction Night is here, and about to begin in a few hours. Up for eviction is Belinda and Rex. For me, Belinda has to go! I’m so fed up with all that stupid, bad, Jazz Scat singing; has she heard herself??? No wonder the other housmates are going spare, especially with that snoring. She sounds like a Truck!

Also, there’s the fact of Rex. He clearly wants to go, but hates quitting so will not walk. His attempts to get people to vote for him are actually quite hilarious, and that makes me want to see him stay in for a bit longer lol.

So, tune in at 9pm on C4 to start watching!
